A summary of the standings show a couple of close races unfolding, with the February crowns for Woman’s KOM and for Clubs very much in doubt.
The woman’s race has Herbalife la Grange’s Lisa Buckland out front with nearly 39K of feet behind (underneath?) her – that would be some 10,000 meters already. A good day’s climbing is all that separates her from 2nd place rider Anna Christiansen of IronClad Performance wear. Lone Star from down under is within striking distance.
The club standings show five in contention, with Mission Cycling looking dominate but not untouchable – their advantage being 48 riders participating. The Iron DataThirstyBear riders are putting up big individual numbers, but are at a distinct disadvantage with only 17 contestants and sit some 87K back. Mtbr.com has come on strong, enlisting a lot of riders this month at 100K behind and Marc Pro – Strava and last month’s winners, Peloton Sports have potential for a strong final week chasing a podium finish.
The men’s individual leader, last month’s 2nd place finisher, Brain Toone, has a commanding lead 30K lead over Lang Reynolds of Cycle University. The same is true for the February Bike Shop leader, KOM Challenge lead sponsor Studio Velo, who have racked up over 450K in Feb, and lead Castro Valley Cyclery by 320K feet.
The five top clubs mentioned above, along with the Studio Velo team have each exceeded 1 million feet so far this year in the KOM Challenge.
Other numbers: 10,226,992 feet (3,117,187 meters) climbed in February by 618 participants from 135 Clubs and 17 Bike Shops.
