Announcing the Studio Velo - Strava KOM Challenge

We are pleased to bring you the 2011 Studio Velo KOM Challenge, powered by Strava.

The competition begins January 1, 2011. Riders can join at any time - rides made before your join date count if they recorded on your GPS device.

Stay tuned for more details. We'll announce new Clubs and Shops right here as they join and additional prizes that will become available and prizewinners as numbers start to accumulate!

The blog and photos will live on this blog,, where a dedicated landing page, twitter links, and photo album will capture the essence of the competition. Strava, the leading online venue where riders can analyze all of their rides, climbs and favorite segments based on GPS data, will capture all rides and group climbing events and provide daily and hourly updates of each rider and group/clubs/shops' progress.

Studio Velo Cycling and Strava have partnered for this year's competition. The challenge will have three distinct categories: Individual, Bike Shops and Clubs/Teams.

Each category will seek to climb 500,000 feet or more. Individual goal is a half a million feet in one year. Club/Team Challenge seeks to accumulate as many feet in a year as possible. No max elevation in any category. Shop & Club/Team competition is total of all riders signed up. This evens the playing field for those shops/clubs that live in flatter areas. A 200-member group can add equal or more feet than a 10 member group if the total groups adds more elevation.

The goal of the challenge is to get riders to seek out their favorite climbs and rides where they accumulate elevation day in and day out. All riders will be able to contribute to the competitions forum on where they will be able to upload photos, blog, and share their experiences with all other competitors.
